Stance4Health work package 4 recently met in the beautiful world heritage city of Bath in the UK, for their third work package meeting. Partners were represented from The University of Granada, Aarhus University, The European Food Information Council, and The University of Bath. The partners met to discuss the development of upcoming research plans and activities, focused on Task 4.2 (To explore and characterise consumer mental models of personalised nutrition), Task 4.3 (To define those factors that influence long-term sustainability of healthy diets by consumers), Task 4.4 (To study consumer willingness to adopt i-Diet), Task 4.5 (To define ethical factors influencing the acceptance of personalised nutrition), and Task 4.6 (To unravel the effect of intersectionality on the adoption of personalised nutrition).

During the meeting, the partners discussed the two extensive literature reviews that have recently been completed by Aarhus University and The University of Bath; focusing on consumer engagement with mobile apps for health, and consumer perceptions of personalised nutrition respectively. Implications of the reviews for development of research activities in each of the WP4 tasks were discussed during the meeting. The partners then spent time discussing plans for each of the upcoming WP4 tasks, including review of a draft discussion protocol which has been developed for use in Task 4.2 qualitative studies. Task 4.2 will explore consumer mental models of personalised nutrition, and the partners agreed that this research will be carried out in Spain, Germany, and the UK in the first half of 2020. Actions were also agreed relating to development of the other work package tasks, including Task 4.3, which will explore adoption intentions of hypothetical personalized nutrition schemes in a large-scale pan-European quantitative survey, and Task 4.4, which will investigate factors that are relevant in consumer adoption of apps to promote healthy behaviours. Potential factors of interest, like gamification, were identified for inclusion in Task 4.4 based on prior literature. Different levels of these factors will be manipulated and tested in the Task 4.4 concept test study. The partners look forward to ongoing collaboration with partners from work package 3 in developing the protocol for Task 4.4. The partners plan to hold another work package 4 meeting in mid-2020 to discuss ongoing progress in each research strand.
